HA! Made ya look. Not that kind of crab. I got two land hermit crabs. Charlie and Tweeter. It was cool cause when I got them home and got their little crabitat set up and put them in it with a couple of pretty pearl shells Charlie got into the bigger pearl shell and Tweeter took Charlie's old shell and then when we were grocery shopping Charlie took over the smaller pearly shell. Pretty fuckin' cool. Charlie decided to pinch me though which wasn't that cool. I didn't know they could actually pinch that hard. I think I moved a bit too fast and scared him. Oh well...they will actually get used to you in time to where you can hand feed them and stuff. Cool little critters. They are escape artists and LOVE to climb!!! These little buggers are ACTIVE!!! They keep playing leap frog over who gets to be king of the driftwood...LOL. Funny little suckers. Although when Charlie pinched me earlier he almost became air crab.

Are they easy to keep??? I would love to get another pet for Tyler...to watch for now. He will be four in 19 days and he is great with the fish, wonderful with the dogs and only has minor issues with our Quaker Scooby---mostly because Scooby once lived next door with some ADD children and Scooby likes to try to attack Ty on occasion. I thought about a lizard but remember they smell and take quite a bit of care. No freakin hamsters cause they would always escape. Hermits could be interesting and something for him to enjoy watching. Let me know!

The crabs and everything cost me about 90 bucks. That is the food, the water solutions, the aquarium thingy, drift wood, food and water dishes, beach ball sponges to keep it humid, the two crabs, pooper scooper, the calci-sand for the bottom. They aren't hard but you have to keep a dish of salt water for them as well as fresh water. You also need to give them a couple inches of the calci-sand so when they molt they can burrow into it. When they molt you don't want to disturb them and they can appear to be dead. And they can die during the molting process because it is very stressful for them. They are kind of shy little critters and spook easily so a lot of fast movement will make them retreat into their shell. Or in Charlie's case he pinched me which was a first. Little bastard did that RIGHT after I finished telling Hubby "oh they don't pinch" uh huh...he about became air crab. Best thing I can say is to research them. See if it is something that you can do. Hubby doesn't really care for them but I on the other hand find them amusing little critters. Here is a message board that may be really helpful.
